Why a fundraising event?
At the heart of hosting this event is the hope that through shared and collective dialogue and learning, we can connect and support youth in our societies more closely. To support them in thriving. To support them in enriching their lives through greater connection to needs such as safety, learning, connection, authenticity, and inclusion. The event is also aimed at supporting the construction of the NVC School Rusinga, Kenya, and the youth and families of Rusinga.
Background To Our Cause
A dream for many, the NVC School in Rusinga is now taking shape. The school will be for students from 11 to 18 years of age. It will offer multiple learning environments. Of course, students will learn the secondary school curriculum subjects, however, besides this and arguably as important, they will be introduced to the Nonviolent Communication modality, which will help them to communicate and cooperate in a way that respects equality and connection. This supports the learners to make changes and build their own futures: peaceful, independent, self-supportive, and sustainable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here we try to answer any questions or concerns you may have. If it is still not clear, please contact us through the contact form.
Why was the event cancelled?
You may be wondering why the event is not taking place as planned. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, several trainers who were integral to the event are no longer available. Despite this setback, our commitment to our cause remains unwavering, and we are exploring alternative ways to achieve our objectives. We stand our ground to foster sustainable peace and social change by creating a safe learning space for children, teenagers and adolescent mothers.
In these challenging times, your support and understanding mean the world to us. We are immensely grateful for your continued belief in our mission and your willingness to stand by us, even in the face of adversity.
If you are unable to contribute financially at this time, we completely understand. You can still make a significant impact by spreading the word about our cause within your network. Your advocacy can help us reach more individuals who share our passion for education and community development.
Once again, we extend our heartfelt thanks for your unwavering support and understanding. Together, we will continue to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
How can I get a refund?
If you have already made a payment for the event, please know that you have couple of options. You may request a refund by contacting us from the contact page, and our team will promptly process it for you within a few weeks. Alternatively, if you choose not to request a refund, your contribution will be dedicated to our ongoing efforts to build the school in Rusinga, Kenya. Your generosity is deeply appreciated, and your support will make a meaningful difference in the lives of many.
We have emailed everyone who registered for this event on how to get the refund.
Why was the event postponed to April 2024?
This event was initially scheduled for Nov 17-19, 2023 but we had to postpone it for several reasons.
By the time we made the decision, we had only raised $730 from 24 out of 70 participants across different time zones, significantly below our goal of $30,000 with 600 participants. This inadequacy translates to building only one classroom wall while our aim is to construct four fully-equipped classrooms.
Our participant numbers were imbalanced globally, with only 20+ registrations from Asia-Pacific and a mere dozen from the Americas. The rest from EurAfrica.
This worried us, and we were terrified that the trainers, hosts, volunteers would just have a few or no participants during the sessions. It is not how we want to honour everybody’s time and commitment to our cause. We want to have a conference where needs for meaningful use of everybody’s time and resources are met.
All participants, trainers and stakeholders should have received an email notifying of this change of schedule.
If you’ve registered for the event before Nov 12 2023, your registration remains valid for the rescheduled event and If you have contributed financially and would prefer a full refund due to the impact of the date change on your plans, please let us know.
