When will the school start?
We are aiming to start the school in January 2024. As soon as the school is built, we will start with 40 students and from there gradually grow.
Where does my money go?
We have raised and will raise money for different purposes. First we purchased the land, prepared for water supply and installed toilets and started the training of the teachers. Now the money will be needed to realize the building. When the building is ready, we will move to buying the school materials and so forth. Once the school is up and running the donations will be used to welcome students that can’t pay the school fee.
How many students will be able to attend the school
At the beginning there will be app. 40 students. The number will grow as needed.
What subjects will be offered?
We will offer all subjects that are necessary to pass the regular local secondary school exams (KCSE). Besides, students will learn Nonviolent Communication, permaculture, computer science and different other skills that empower them to build a sustainable and equal future.
What will the building be like?
The building is designed by architects experienced in sustainable building at low costs. Therefore they use local materials that can easily be replaced when broken. Locals will be involved in the construction of the building: this enhances the empowerment of the community as a whole.
Why is the school based on the principles of Nonviolent Communication?
Nonviolent Communication (NVC) has the quality to offer an alternative to oppression and violence. Learning NVC empowers students to enrich their lives and the lives of their beloved ones and others.
Who is in charge of the school?
The Community Based Organisation (CBO) “Nonviolence Communication Rusinga Community” is the legal entity behind this initiative. Samwel Ogalah is the director. He and his team are supported by a board, a local and a global community of (mostly) NVC practitioners from different backgrounds, tribes and culture, both in Kenya and abroad.
Who are the supporters and donors?
This initiative is supported by 5 different support groups, and we are more than 200 people already backing this school to become manifest.
